藝術界內眾所皆知的重要機構亞洲協會(Asia Society)在去年便已宣布,確定將在2020年夏天為藝術人的行事曆再加上一則具影響力的展覽 — 「亞洲三年展(Asia Society Triennial)」。
「在日益全球化的背景下『審視亞洲藝術的意義。 』」亞洲協會美術館館長陳文輝(Tan Boon Hui)說。
熟悉藝術界的朋友們都知道,知名的亞洲協會(Asia Society)是一由美國石油大亨洛克菲勒三世(John D. Rockefeller III)早在 1956年就創立的一個重要機構,影響力不僅僅是如其名地限於『亞洲』。如今,亞洲協會更是提出了呼籲對於亞洲藝術箇中意義的深度瞭解。
此次三年展的參展藝術家,對於當代藝術愛好者來說,定是如數家珍般地熟悉。
其中囊括了:知名台灣藝術家何采柔 (Joyce Ho)、知名台灣藝術團體 豪華朗機工(Luxury Logico Collective)、目前正在曼谷藝術文化中心 (BACC)的《光‧合作用 II-包容關注:東南亞同志議題展》展出的馬來西亞藝術家 Anne Samat 、中國藝術家陸揚Lu Yang 、知名越南藝術家黎光頂 (Dinh Q. Lê) 、中國藝術家徐震 (Xu Zhen®)、中國藝術家徐冰 (Xu Bing)、知名日本藝術團體 teamLab (teamLab Collective (Toshiyuki Inoko)) 等在亞洲藝術界極具代表性的藝術家。
第一屆的「亞洲協會三年展」如先前第一個版本的標題:「我們並非獨自做夢」(We Do Not Dream Alone),由策展人亞洲協會美術館館長陳文輝(Tan Boon Hui)與館內資深策展人 Michelle Yun 兩人所共同策劃。
「Michelle Yun 和我,試圖尋找那些美國觀眾較少見到的作品與藝術家,並介紹給美國當地的觀眾。面對日益快速、且分崩離析的世界,文化與文明間的邊界已逐漸消融,當代藝術的興起則跨越了地理的界線,嘗試著抵抗日與俱增的悲觀主義。」陳文輝(Boon Hui Tan) 先生說。
當時新加坡策展人陳文輝 Boon Hui Tan 在2015年被任命為亞洲協會博物館(Asia Society museum)館長時,他告訴媒體們說:『當代藝術只能從全球範圍內理解』。如今為實現這個理念,亞洲協會正在對當代藝術進行一個關乎全球的大事件。
亞洲三年展(The Triennial of Asia),展期將從今年 2020年 6月5日到 8月9日,展覽地點將在亞洲協會美術館(Asia Society Museum)曼哈頓的總督島(Governors Island)、時代廣場等地發生,正如同策展人陳文輝先生先前所期盼地:「實現把『亞洲和世界』帶到紐約」的理想。同時,如同亞洲協會先前所承諾的,展覽的每一個部分都是免費參觀體驗的,因為「做夢是免費的」陳文輝先生說,「它可以讓我們自由。」
